Which Sky Broadband Package?

Broadband Everyday Light

20GB monthly usage. Everyday surfing, e-mail and downloading. Great for plenty of music downloading but may not cope with too many large file movie downloads.

Unlimited monthly usage. For the whole family downloading movies, music, gaming etc. Other providers throw in a "reliable usage" clause which means they have the option to disallow your service should you be a very big user. Sky don't do this so download to your hearts content without fear of losing your account.

How much will I use?

The average movie download is around 600Mb to 700Mb and music downloads can be anything between 1Mb to 5Mb on average. 1000Mb is equal to 1GB so you can easily at least roughly work out what your usage is likely to be as a starting point. For example: If you surf the internet 14 hours a week and send / receive 70 e-mails of which 20 have attachments / photos files etc. your monthly usage would be approximately 0.6GB (600Mb) add 20 music track downloads to this and you reach 1GB, download one movie and this will jump to around 1.6GB.

Switching from cable or another provider in 5 Easy Steps

    You will first need to check for Sky Broadband in your area using the Sky Postcode Checker

    Join Sky TV and install your chosen package (for cable users... ensure you have a BT compatible line installed)

    Contact your current provider and apply for a "MAC" (migration authorisation code) this will take appx 5 days to obtain and will be valid for 30 days. (for Cable users... cancel your Cable account at this point)

    Give us the code at any time that suits you to enable us to contact your current provider and switch your account over to Sky. The whole process really is very simple! (Not applicable to cable users... go to point 5)

    You will then receive a letter from Sky with your "going live" date. Your internet service will only be interrupted for a maximum of 2 hours while this process takes place on the day of your new Sky account becoming active.

    You will need a BT compatible line that has been active for 5 days or more and a computer that meets the following minimum specifications:

    Your Sky Broadband package will normally take up to 15 days to activate. You will receive a welcome letter from Sky followed by a letter which will give you an activation date. Your Free Wireless Router will be sent to you for self installation. This is extremely easy... All you do is follow the detailed step by step instructions on the accompanying CD... connect up the ethernet port and off you go!

    Cancel your Cable TV contract (if you have one)

    Make sure you have a BT Phone line (call BT on 0800 800 150 to do this)

    As soon as your BT line has been active for 5 days contact us on 08442 410 5 83 to set up and activate your Sky Talk package (this takes around 14 days to complete)

    Cancel your cable phone and/or broadband contract. To avoid interruption to your phone / broadband service we recommend that you do this last. You will receive billing from both Sky and your cable company from the date your Sky Talk and/or Sky Broadband goes live to the end of your cable notice period. Please note you will NOT be charged twice... Existing Sky TV customers..

UK calls include calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers only (does not include the Channel Islands).Sky line rental (£11) is applicable to customers paying by monthly direct debit and are receiving paper-free (electronic) billing. The monthly cost for BT line rental for customers who request paper billing is£11.75. Paper billing (on request) is free to Sky talk customers. Unlimited International calls to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Rep, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Newt Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and USA (also includes calls to mobiles in Canada and USA).
